I know. I'm really not a nerd I like LEGOS. I need a opininon in which one to get.

Does the cruise comes with Admiral Ackbar? That would totally seal the deal for me … and if that comes with going to the battle, the Ewoks are awesome.

Why I'll never be offered a job as a hospital chaplain

I never imagined as be good for any job in the hospital.

I am aware that hospitals are an ideal setting to provide care and compassion to the needy, but those relationships are always short-lived, it seems somewhat artificial to me. Certainly, I could never see myself as a hospital chaplain – the management of such a constant turnover of intense relationships, short term.

Still, when I was in the hospital, not through deliberate planning on my part but through the work unpleasant of Providence, I figured I would have to make the best of the situation and take any opportunity that the Good Lord put in my way. I sorta but with the hope that He I was a bit of rest.

Perhaps it was this desire for a break that led me to introduce myself to other guys in my neighborhood as "Dave: veteran fight trainer and pro "and not as" Father Dave: Pastor. "What was the difference anyway? I 'Father Dave' written on the label on my bed, if anyone cared to look, and, indeed, the other guys do not really seem too interested in any other business anyway (God bless).

Most of the other guys were not too close or good about themselves – a quiet group, but decent. The exception was the type of bed immediately in front of me – A guy who proved himself increasingly neither quiet nor decent – a guy named "Homer."

I will not mention his name, because I want to respect the confidentiality in, but I say it was not Simpson. In many ways, but should have been. As time went on, Homer gave an impression increasingly clear I was so rude, lazy, unintelligent and as all-self-obsessed as his counterpart in three fingers, but there were few positive aspects of their self-titled animated.

Homer began his Whinging early in the morning, and it seemed that the less people listen to him, which became stronger. He complained about the food, service, bedding, medicines, heat, cold, and lack of alternative meaning your TV display.

For the most part was happy enough to let this wash over me, but when he began to refine their attacks against a particular member of the nursing staff that I really began to lose patience.

It all started at 4 am one morning. All of us in the room awoke from our dream to hear strong rebuke Nurse Homer Lee because she would not give more pain medication.

"But I'm only allowed to give two tablets every six hours," said the nurse.

"No!" Homer answered. "The doctor told me that allowed me to take them every two hours!"

"He could not have said it, Mr. Homer," the nurse responded.

"I know what I heard," Homer shouted in response.

And in the way that the stoush continued, with the nurse the unfortunate holding his ground, while Homer became increasingly uncomfortable in their use of language, called a "moron f *** ing 'and' a Fluesy Chinese. At one point even suggested that the nurse would have to go and reread the Hippocratic oath – "the customer is always right!"

Homer's knowledge of Hippocrates summarized quite well the wisdom of his position as I saw it. He did not understand the customs, history, or what was good for him. Even so, if possible to compensate for lack of substance with a volume increase, he was the man to do it!

Finally, the supervising physician was found and the moment of truth came. "You said I could take these every two hours!" Homer said. "Of course no. Only drink every six hours, "said the doctor. "Oh," said Homer. "… He said he thought every second"

Now you can think that this would have meant the end of the conflict. What other options were there at that time for the losers, except Homer to apologize to the doctor, nurses and entire hospital audience, and get away quietly with his tail between his legs.

If Leonidas, king of Sparta, was found in this position at Thermopylae would have apologized to King Xerxes of prey, rounded his troops and returned home. If Luke Skywalker and his companions had found in this position at the Battle of Endor, they would have surrendered to the nearest fair storm-soldier and sworn to the Emperor. If the devil himself … ok, you get the idea. My point is that Homer was no ordinary human being. I did not know the meaning of the word "defeat" (or many other words for that matter), so instead of backtracking and apologize to increased attack.

Homer found new reasons to criticize the Asian middle-aged nurse who had done so well in hanging in scathing assault. It focused on the multiple personality defects had been detected there. He attacked his lack of fluency in English. He even tried his report to the supervising nurse to have the shoes he was sure not to comply with Health and Safety rules!

Long Time after Lee had completed nurse diatribe Homer continues to be disseminated to anyone and everyone who cares to listen to him, and his comments became increasingly poor and racially oriented.

On second thought I'm not sure why it took me so long to give a meaningful response. My only defense is that it was pretty bad – with fever, high in the drug levels and subject to a trickle. Still, I'm not proud of the fact that it took me half a day before my tolerance is exhausted.

I can not remember now Homerism specifics that I left, but I do remember calling through a nursing staff member and asked him to pass a message to Homer of me: "do the favor to tell Homer that if he makes one more comment from poor or racist Nurse Lee on I'm going to separate my drip and walk over there and break your nose? "

Fortunately, the nurse was spared the difficult position of having to actually go in the message as Homer heard more than what he had said. He responded with some mild swearing and low volume that indicated that I had not really got the message. I repeated my plan more audible, and added: "It totally your call, brother. Keep your mouth shut and you'll be fine. A more sordid or racist comment and you are in a pool of his own blood! "This colorful PS was quite effective, and an ominous silence descended in our room.

The silence was broken by the arrival of a fellow who had come to me a visit. As providence would have it, this brother in particular (which I will refer to simply as "Bugsy") is a huge guy with a face that tells the story pub fights a thousand. The recently found God and is a man of great heart, but there was still a great standover man. He is the kind of man who heads love the accompanying mafia when they go to collect debts – "rough it a bit for me, Bugsy!

Anyway, Bugsy had been to see how he was not around to explain that tangible air of tension in the room. Bugsy thought it was great fun, and did consider walking to the bed of Homer and merely confirms to him that he had received the message, but hesitated on the basis that he was still on probation, and I think it was a wise decision.

In any case, I believe that the mere appearance of this version of Mr. T Caucasus greatly helped to reinforce my message to Homer. I did not hear a squeak from him since that moment, just until I moved to another room an hour later. Moreover, I was told the next morning he had bought a large box of chocolates for all nurses!

And all you have better for me since that time. I moved to a room much quieter and I was the darling of staff nursing for the rest of my hospital stay. Best of all, I was visited by the nurse Lee at the conclusion of its next turn. She told me with his beautiful broken English, "You're my knight in shining armor."

The whole experience has been working at the hospital in a new light for me. Still do not see myself as a chaplain, but maybe I could be on call for certain special cases that my suit particular style of ministry?

Back home nobody was surprised when he learned what had happened. In fact, my colleague, Father Elijah, began his sermon the following Sunday when he said: "I think if it had appeared in the newspaper that a priest had threatened to hit another patient in a hospital in Sydney, the most common response would have been: "I did not know Dave was in the hospital!"

I'm not entirely sure whether to feel happy or horrified by the analysis of Elijah, but they make me laugh
