how much can a builder get bricks for?

im having a quote for a garden wall,and the builder kept going on about bricks being really expensive at the moment,i think hes spinning me a line,do you know how much a builder would pay for each brick if he bough a Bulk Lot?thanks

All builder’s merchants will give you a quotation for ,say, 100 bricks.
Bricks that are in stock will be what they can quote for. Ordering in is only for large projects. The builder will be able to buy the bricks and claim back the vat if he is registered. But he will past the vat cost on to you anyway.
Many builders merchants do a regular range of bricks which are in stock. It’s best to visit the yard and amble around until a pile of bricks catches your eye. Bit like clothes shopping (apologies for that).
That will be the best way to choose your bricks and check on the builder’s quote.
It does sound like he is spinning a line. Otherwise he would just give you different quotes for different bricks.
