How many ways are there to breach a castle?
The direct approach–break down the door with a battering ram, throw grappling hooks over the walls and climb, break down the walls with catapults, sneak inside a big wooden horse, dress up as someone who works at the castle, offer terms of surrender and attack once they let you inside, go stealth and climb through the sewage system, dig a tunnel underneath the wall, fly over with Leonardo DaVinci’s flying contraption, and that’s about all I can think of. What’s the most creative way to break into a Castle, any famous incidents that made history?
One famous breach was in 1350 BC(E) when Joshua led the Hebrews against the city of Jericho. Joshua had sent some “operatives” (spies) to scout the city, and they became friendly with a prostitute. She saved them by lowering them out her window on a red cord, leaving the cord in place.
The Jericho soldiers, searching for the spies failed to see the rope hanging out, so when the spies returned with their comrades, they all climbed up the cord, ran into the city, and attacked from within. Soon the horns blew, and thanks to some clever commando work, the “walls fell down” or at least the gates opened up.
Treachery is another way to breach the walls; have someone working for you inside!
