City Train Castle

City Train Castle
Traveling through Europe for five months-Where to go?

I will be in Europe for a little over 5 months traveling from February to August strictly Planing going from England to Spain and Portugal, to fly to Venice, head down to Pompeii, hitting the main Italian cities on the road, see the sites in Greece, Istanbul, then, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Munich, Switzerland, Berlin, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Brugha home Edinborough, Dublin, and back to California. I am a big history with an emphasis on ancient Roman history, and we'd love to see any kind of ruin or castle, along with a lot of college towns fun bars. I will travel by any method is the cheapest at the time, plane, bus, bike or train. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions in a good place to visit would be. And do not say "London", I know, I get details of cities please.

Make sure to stop by Zurich if you are in Switzerland, its the best city in Europe. :)

Hi In Mexico City – Part 5 – Exploring the Paseo de la Reforma, Chapultepec Park and a pleasant evening in San Angel

This morning another wonderful Mexican breakfast was in the store: Vanessa had made "him tlacoyos nopales" (fried dough covered with fruits of the cactus and melted cheese on top) that I liked lot. Around 9:30 was launched and sister Vanessa left us, just across the Ángel de la Independencia, a monument erected in 1910 to commemorate independence Spain, in the Paseo de la Reforma.

El Paseo de la Reforma is an almost 4 km long tree-lined boulevard, linking the downtown with the Bosque de Chapultepec. Several monuments adorn roundabouts or traffic circles, and had already seen one of the monuments, the Caballito, yesterday.

Right next to the Angel of Independence, a Official tourist police stopped us and asked us if we were going and could be helpful. It was a charming young man and pulled a laminated map of his jacket and said security to all major attractions in Mexico City. We had seen a good bit, but inevitably we will lose a lot, and there was not much to do and there just was not enough time.

After a photo session with the tourist police keep us going and exploring the Paseo de la Reform. From the Angel of Independence that followed the Huntress Diana (Diana the Huntress) statue, which caused a stir when it was originally released as it is a statue of a naked woman. The city authorities decided to cover the statue in a while, but sanity prevailed and embarrassing the covers were removed after some time.

We continued our mid-morning stroll to the Bosque de Chapultepec, an area sacred to the ancient pre-Columbian cultures and now largest park in Mexico City. Walk to the castle, first time I find a great monument called the Monumento a los Niños Héroes, in commemoration of army cadets (the boy heroes ") who died defending the castle of an American attack in 1847.

From there we explored the Castillo de Chapultepec, which was built in the 1760s, but is best known for having been the residence of the unfortunate Austrian Emperor Maximilian, and his wife, Princess Charlotte, which ruled Mexico for only a few years until 1866 when he met an unfortunate end by firing squad.

We slowly walk through the castle hill, paid our entrance fee and started to explore the castle. In fact, the tradition of the Habsburgs, which is decorated with ornate furniture, baroque style, and the first thing you see are the real "floats" (cars) as it enters the first room of the exhibition. Since then he is a variety of rooms, since they were used by the Hapsburg monarchs – dining rooms, living rooms, a bedroom and a meeting room, which illustrate the extreme opulence these royals enjoyed. No wonder the population, which was just surviving, not bother with the dominance and privilege of the aristocrats.

Then he walked to the top-level garden which is enclosed by glass windows. Right next to one of these glass walls on the ground noticed a small "Hummingbird" (hummingbird) that had flown over the glass envelope and called himself. Vanessa is rescued by gently taking her hand, then Vanessa went downstairs and set the bird free on the grass. When she opened her hand, the bird had recovered his wits enough to fly free again.

We then explore the Museo del Caracol (the snail "museum" because of its shape), which also houses a museum about the history of Mexico (Galeria History), with a series of dioramas depicting scenes from the struggle for the independence of the Mexican Revolution.

The views over the city from Castle Hill is impressive and literally enjoy a 360 degrees. Then we walked up the hill, past a series of street vendors, everything from Mexican food, for sun hats and visors, disposable cameras, much of which is announced by screaming promotionally merchandise assortment for the parade visitors.

Chapultepec Lake is a popular destination for weekend of Mexican families features and rowboats, swans, stages for theater and presentations ballet and many beautiful places to relax. We explored the Casa del Lago, an art center in charge of the largest university in Mexico, UNAM. Right in front of the Casa del Lago people of all ages were painting, drawing, reading newspapers, and this site offers many free activities and arts and culture to the local population.

Just after our visit we walked down the catwalk with all the vendors and saw a local artist who was producing miniature paintings, with their fingers, fingers, and the occasional stroke. He produced a variety of landscapes, including one with the volcano Popocatepetl in Mexico known. I had the opportunity to take a video of their behavior artistic and ended up buying three paintings in miniature, colorful scenes representing typical Mexican. While painting was telling stories about the issues that was painting, and cracked the occasional joke, which made the whole crowd of onlookers laugh.

Then headed back to the Paseo de la Reforma to the Auditorium, the famous center Mexico City outdoor concert. On the sidewalk beside the busy 6-lane road, there was a public art project: a whole series of life-size cows that had been painted and decorated in a very unique and always great photo opportunities of enthusiastic visitors. This public art campaign reminded me of Toronto Moose exhibitions in recent years. I think Chicago had a similar campaign with the cows too.

Once in the auditorium buy a refreshing "nieve" (Crushed ice, in this case lemon-flavored) and returned in the Paseo de la Reforma to the famous Museum of Anthropology. We explore the exterior and the lobby, unfortunately, not having enough time to explore the interior. The Museum of Anthropology is one of the most famous and most comprehensive museums in Mexico. Opened in 1964 and is various collections of artifacts from various cultures of pre-Columbian Mexico. Next to the museum is a large stone statue of the rain god Tlaloc.

Then we a bus (a pesera ") to the other side of Chapultepec Park, near Lake Maggiore, which came near Children's Museum and began to explore this part of this great park. We went in search of the restaurant overlooking Lake Maggiore and had a little trouble finding first, as there is a Restaurant and a Café del Lago Lake. Finally after Vanessa had asked passers-by, we realized we had to go to the Café del Lago and actually found our lunch destination. Coffee is an attractive looking structure overlooking the lake, and features a buffet lunch every day. Fortunately we negotiate our way to a just order in the soup since we had already Snack "greaves" (usually puffed and fried pork rinds, but these were made of wheat flour) and there was no way I could handle a full meal. Just had a delicious Chile poblano, green soup Made From peppers that was very tasty and creamy.

Then we made our way back on the road where we boarded another pesera "lead us to the subway station of the constituents, which fell by about 3 or 4 big steps down (to be have been about 40 or 50 feet below the surface) and captured three subway trains back on Vanessa neighborhood. After passing fast and cheap (5 dollars, 70 cents) in an Internet café, Vanessa's parents and her sister picked us up to take us to San Angel, another beautiful part of Mexico City, with colonial buildings and cobblestone streets.

We begin by exploring the Church of San Jacinto, which has a courtyard with a rain gutter to catch rainwater, and a beautiful garden Private and closed in the back of the church. As part of an event was taking place: a quinceñera "" – a ritual celebrating a girl's entry 15 years of age in adulthood. Then explore the Plaza San Jacinto, which had hundreds of street vendors, selling different types of works of art. San Angel is known as a borough that is home to many artists. It has numerous permanent galleries as well as the weekend the "flea" or "Mercado ambulante "(" Moving the market ") with vendors that were installed only on the weekend.

For dinner, took one of the restaurants overlooking the square and had some traditional Mexican dishes. I had a "soup of the inn" (chicken soup with pico de gallo and avocado), followed by a "salad watercress (watercress salad with tomato, onion and bacon). Vanessa's family had a variety of seafood dishes and Chile "filler" (chiles stuffed with meat chopped, topped with a sauce made of cream, nuts and cinnamon).

At 8 pm we had finished our dinner and we had already had a day we went quite tiring back to catch up on some sleep and rest in our day of departure.
