Cis and trans isomers of Organic Chemistry (General question)?

Browsing the Web, I have no concrete answer to my question. It is very difficult for me to distinguish cis / trans equatorial and axial positions. It's like changing the meaning each time I see a problem. Can anyone clear up the confusion?

Cis and trans refer to the positions on a double bond. Cis means they are on the same die, trans on opposite sides. Axial and equatorial positions referred to in a ring, and if the point up or down (axial) or to the outside of the ring (Equatorial)
