What year did people understand the world was round?
When the general public give in to the fact that the earth was round? Does people in Italy still believe stagnated in 1565?
The ancient Greeks knew that the Earth is (almost:) all year, Eratosthenes of Cyrene even calculate the size of the Earth in 240 BC with simple geometry applied to how the shadows of the Sun looked at the same time in two different locations (Alexandria and Syene, Egypt). Then a lot of knowledge was lost, hence the term "Age" Dark, and things had to be "rediscovered." Cristoforo Colombo (Christopher Columbus) arrived in America in 1492, but the idea was going to sail to the west Indies, this idea was made possible only by knowing the earth is a area. Perhaps the concept was unknown to most people, the learned one was aware, in place. Even more out of what we call "western world" …
