I Chose The Imperial Guard, Now What?

So I decided to come back and try to play Warhammer 40k after building a small Space Marines army a couple of years ago. I decided to go with the Imperial Guard because mainly, I like their background story (do all the work but are not credited with it thanks to the SM) and they look pretty cool. Little did I know that it will take a crapload of money to build a strong army but hey I’ll take it step by step. So I went to the shop today and bought a 10 man Cadian Shock Troops set to begin my army. Apart from the Codex which is vital, what should I get next to start building my force?

An easy and moderately cheaper way to bulk up your force is through battle boxes. The new battle box is nowhere near as nice as the old, being the new one has , 20 guardsmen 3 Heavy Weapons sentinal and a company command squad. THe old one has 20 guardsmen 3 heavy weapons and a leman russ battle tank. Although it doesnt have the tank varients of the newer versions, getting a tank early in small games can have disatorus results.

Stay clear of elites as your gonna first need to build solid troops, so build up your troops until you have a reasonable fighting force, then move in for elites.

A command squad is recommended, but no nessecary, as you can easily take an independant character for your HQ. That being said, the command squad comes with a butt load of extra bits to customize your guys, and creates also a platoon commander.

BUt all of these are just recommed and are not vital. You could for fun just take 2 veteran squads one independent HQ and then 9 tanks.
