Imperial Soldier
Imperial Soldier
Is "Letters from Iwo Jima" overrated?
I just saw this movie. Okay, but overrated lot. The story is interesting, but not convincing. Basic facts and figures are ignored. Eastwood does not give you a sense of how many Japanese were on the island. In addition, sympathetically describes completely and ruthless monsters they were in China, Korea and all other countries and the territory they occupied (not to mention their treatment of American POWs). Imperial Japanese soldiers shown as a group of Boy Scouts wrong. That was not the case. I do not condemn Japan or Japanese culture, but America in the 1920s and 30 was similar to Nazi Germany – well, nothing.
I do not think is nominal. point of the film was to show that even people sometimes get stuck in things beyond their control, and all they can hope for is to survive. I do not think you were paying attention to the film its self, most of the soldiers were relentless and driven to do the right thing for his country, but some were more interested in returning to the life he once had. Yes they were the enemy and a great% acted a monstrous fashion, but even among the enemies are the people being human and able to separate the war from their feelings. You are not supposed to reach the extent of the great battle which is supposed to be seen from the Japanese point of view, caves, small groups outside the hole shot, the vision is limited, you knows is fighting going on, but who knows where. My only complaint is that there was no time reference, which suggests that the battle was over quickly, when in fact lasted for a month. I think it was an excellent movie, and I'm happy to finally be able to go to see her on big screen, I only saw one small screen rather than an independent film theater, so I could not completely submerge my self in the film.
