2004 Aveo automatic lock system on my keyring lock the car but the alarm will not sound – any ideas?

I have the key which has the lock and unclock in it. When I click the lock of the car, I can hear the locks engage and knobs go down and the car is locked, but the beeping sound car use for me to know that the alarm was armed, not sound. Any suggestions on this?
