William the Conqueror would have been the best known of Norman in the Battle of Hastings, as it was the Norman leader, claiming the English throne … Harold Saxon … Harold's death appears in the Bayeux tapestry, but it is stated in history that a group of knights Norman, including William, broke through a "shield wall 'Harold and although he was surrounded by his loyal" house-Carls', was killed …. In some versions it was a spear, in others …. an arrow, if an arrow would not have been a gentleman … If a spear or spear .. I could certainly have been, as all Norman knights, including William, carried spears as part of the "team of weapons."
