Lego Axle
Lego Axle
Need to create a small car powered by a rubber-band. No slingshot. Design tips?
The car has to be smaller than a piece of paper and cannot be flinged by pulling the rubber band and letting go. It is a competition to see whose group can go the farthest on a tennis court. I’m thinking a Lego Car will do the trick but I need some tips on how to design it. I’m thinking I can wind the rubber band on the axles. Any other hints or suggestions?
Also, doesn’t the big-wheels-in-the-back-small-in-the-front design make it go faster?
Obviously you would want to test the principle first, the big wheels on back makes it go farther not faster, the car would actually go slower with the big wheels in back. Are you limited to rubber bands only for propulsion? If you used, for example, the spring of a mouse trap and the travel of the mouse killing bail to give the rubber band an extra pull you would gain an advantage. If the mouse trap was legal you could fix a longer lever arm to the mouse killing bail of the mouse trap to get an even longer throw. You would want to design a very light car, CD’s make pretty good wheels and they are very light but you might want to design Your Own wheels of a more optimal diameter.
