What is a good humanoid robotics kit to get?

I like the Bioloid and the KHR models, but I do not know which to get. What are the editors like on them? I live in the U.S., and have a lot of technical and programming experience(Making gadgets on circuit boards, Lego Mindstorms, java, c++, html, flash, etc.) If I could have some guidance on the subject as this looks like a cool, but expensive hobby.
Post Script: Money is not much of a problem, as I have a job. I know they can run in the thousands of dollars range, so I am looking for one in the $1000-2000 dollar range.

lego Mindstorms Nxt is a relatively cheap set, although it is really basic. you can try searching or looking through books. if you know a friend who has one, you might ask him/her for its quality or his/her recommendations
