Alabama ship was a Navy ship with the captain who was captured?

I'm trying to catch up with history. So was this boat a boat Military Navy, or simply a civilian ship that was aided by the Navy to rescue the captain of Alabama? There is no video out in any website everything that happened during the massacre of the Pirates or Navy Seal skydiving?
