I am building a closet in a bedroom. Should I remove the ceiling drywall to attach the top plate of the wall?
I am removing the carpet to attach the bottom plate. I have to put in cross members between the ceiling joists to attach the top plate to.
Layout both your floor and ceiling plate for your stud location, then nail the ceiling plate through the ceiling drywall and into the joist. Then nail the other plate to the floor. Measure for stud length individually and toenail the studs to the plates.
Use a plumb-bob to have everything straight and plumb.
