Police Officer
What is the best way of becoming a police officer?

There are so many point of views from people who do not have the experience and people who never make the decisions. This confuses me and a lot of other people in my position. I know the whole process of trying to become a cop such as the written test, physical, etc but what is the best background, or the best education, or what is the best way to get the best chances to becoming a police officer? Preferably recent or veteran police officers answer unless you actually know for a fact what you are talking about. Thank you in advance!

How you become a police officer varies by state and by department. You want to have the best background that you can. Your background does not have to be perfect, but the better it is, the easier it may be for you to become a police officer. As far as education, the more education you have, the better. Some police departments only require their officers to have a high school diploma or GED. Some police departments require their officers to have a two year degree or equivalent. Some police departments require their officers to have a four year degree or equivalent. Even if a particular department does not require a degree, you will have a better chance of getting hired if you have one. Some departments pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree could also benefit you when trying to get promoted after you become a police officer. You should choose a major that interests you, but that would also be useful for police work. Some examples are criminal justice, accounting, psychology, a foreign language, or computer science. There are many things that you can do to increase your chances of becoming a police officer.
