Civil War battles fought by amateurs

A large percentage of Civil War soldiers, both Union and Confederate, were fans. This applies more to the troops that the military officers. "Most of the officials of the Civil War were trained military professionals and was taken and graduated from West Point. Many of these officers had also seen service in the war with Mexico and other conflicts. The soldiers were largely voluntary, business City, workers and peasants who had taken up arms for any cause appealed to their personal beliefs and then fought for their respective republics.

Lincoln's top general, Winfield Scott, had fought with the volunteers during the war with Mexico and not appreciate them as soldiers. He had found volunteers not trained to be a rebel, unskilled and generally the men who did not follow orders. In their eyes these qualities became useless as soldiers and unfit for battle. Whether the point of view of Scott was valid or not was moot. The Union had a lot of weapons, but not enough men to form an army needed to the construction of the war on the horizon.

Lincoln made a call for 75,000 militia and other volunteers to enlist for three months on April 15, 1861. This was the time I thought it would take the Union army to quell the rebellion and bring southern states back into the Union. He got his 75,000 volunteers and more. Jefferson Davis had asked and received more than 100,000 men in the south of enlistments a year. Both the Union Army and a new army Confederate was ready for the bloodiest war in American history.

General Scott pleaded with President Lincoln for the time to train volunteers and targeting the provision of services necessary to maintain his army, he knew that his newly formed army was far from being ready for battle against an armed enemy. Few or none of the men had no training in combat, the strategy or the use of their weapons. This extensive warfare training, would take more time that Lincoln had to resign because of the intense pressure he was receiving from Congress and the public to take the war to a quick end and a victory for the States USA.

Although also received little or no military training, the Confederate army was a little better as a fighting force. Most Southerners were farmers and outdoor types and more experience in the use of their guns and often lead to target = "_blank"> Civil weapons war such as guns and knives struggle. Another advantage was decided that the Confederate soldiers were fighting in their own backyard and were more familiar with the terrain.

Once the armies engaged in serious fighting soldiers on both sides quickly learned that another man shot and wounded by a gunshot, was far from hunting deer or rabbit and the reality of war sets in. The soldiers were baptized by fire, literally, and found the gruesome battle imaginable. The soldiers killed or wounded in their first the battle became seasoned fighters and were of great help in the training of replacements.

Participate in a target = "_blank"> Civil War recreation, which bore the authentic reproduction of the Confederation or target = "_blank"> Union Uniforms and clothing and other gear right period, is to experience some of these feelings of being in a war of fire.
