Do you think nuclear weapons are a stabilizing force in international relations?
We have not had a major war or conflict between large Powers directly from 1945. We have proxy wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Korea. But Russian tanks rolling in Europe never came. Why is this? Not that we had our reasons or have not the will. I believe that nuclear weapons and the Second World War changed the way we see conflicts between nations possess nuclear weapons and advanced technology. War is no longer a battle from a far away from the eyes looking to the public. Its all over and moves with the speed of light. Millions of innocents are at risk and most importantly are the people who make the decisions. The leaders and legislators how life is at risk to not go after policies that might jeopardize. War is not just sending a lot of young men to die for a cause that is not his most when fighting a Westernized. fighting a Westernized country.
Yes they have been. The existence of mutually assured destruction has created a time almost out nuclear. If it were not for tanks Russia's nuclear deterrent have been in France long ago. the global conventional war with nuclear nations would be counterproductive at best. This has increased proxy wars and interventions calculated by the nuclear nations. The genie is out of the box and soon many nations including the less rational with nuclear capabilities. His only a matter of time before someone screws up.
