Has the world or any city or country has always saved?

The question I have ever had a real threat to the world, country or city where some James Bond or Agent XXX uncle disarmed a bomb killed an evil or terrorists? Or is it something that only happens in the movies? Most films are some kind of truth, so I wonder if something similar has ever happened. If so how did u not hear about that?

My friend's grandparents grew up in World War 2 in Holland, where the young German would distract officers playing football, then disarm their bombs. Seriously.
